Re: Lyrica in depression
Though pregabalin has been shown effective in general anxiety disorder, only one recent case study notes the possible effectiveness of pregabalin in depression:
Showraki M. Pregabalin in the treatment of depression. Journal of Psychopharmacology. 2007;8:883-4.
In addition, one review article suggests that antiepileptics may vary in their mood stabilizing and anxiolytic properties. Authors state that “Carbamazepine, valproate, lamotrigine, and oxcarbazepine appear to have mood stabilizing properties while gabapentin, pregabalin, and tiagabine have anxiolytic benefits:”
Ettinger AB and Argoff CE. Use of antiepileptic drugs for nonepileptic conditions: psychiatric disorders and chronic pain. Neurotherapeutics. 2007;1:75-83.
