Default pantoprazole

What are plans and pbms doing with pantoprozole since Pfizer is now going to be the only generic manufacturer and presumably that will mean the price will increase? Is anyone moving it to 3rd tier or not covering it?

"Plans I deal with have moved it to 3rd tier as well as put a step edit that requires use of first line generics such as omeprazole, omeprazole otc, lansoprazole"

"Most plans I work with have used step therapy to require a true generic or a lower cost brand first line"

Have blocked generic pantoprazole coverage for some time now in favor of brand Protonix. Covering brand Protonix at tier-1 with step edit requiring 1st-line trial of generic omeprazole. No other brands at tier-2, and all other brands stepped thru omeprazole AND Protonix. Very favorable contract in place from Wyeth/Pfizer in return for this coverage position.

"I believe the outcome of the case is not completely finalized. A judge has the final ruling. I believe the patent for PROTONIX expires in January 2011 anyway. To my knowledge, Teva is still supplying the generic. "

we plan on placing it tier 3 (high copay) with PA. Member can only get it if they try 2 preferred products or be concurrently taking plavix.
