Default Medispan SS/MS identifiers

How does Medispan identifiy if a drug is a single source (SS) brand or a multi-source (MS) generic? Does it get fed by pharma? Does the pricing change when the drug goes from MS generic to SS brand?

What triggers a change for a drug to go from MS generic to SS brand? Does it correlate to a decrease in competition and when a single manufacturer has a majority market share?

Default Re: Medispan SS/MS identifiers

When new products become available and the pricing is set, the information is sent to the drug databases (i.e. First DataBank, Medispan, etc.) When a generic becomes available, the Medispan database changes the indicator from a single-source brand to a multi-source brand or generic. This indicator is based both upon the number of generics that are currently available, as well as through the pricing of the drugs.
