Biography:
Dr. Mednick is currently the Senior Vice President of Strategic Business Development, Managed Markets for CareMed Pharmaceutical Services, a specialty care company which provides integrated services in the areas of home infusion, specialty pharmacy, respiratory therapy, home durable medical equipment, laboratory, disease management, and nursing. CareMed is headquartered in the Greater New York Metropolitan area.

Before joining CareMed, Darlene was the Vice President of Pharmacy Services for the Gorman Health Group, a leading consulting firm specializing in Medicare managed care program development, implementation, and operations.

Prior to the Gorman Health Group, Darlene was the Vice President, Pharmacy Services for Touchstone Health, a Medicare Advantage (MA-PD) HMO in New York City. There she served on the Quality Management Improvement Committee, the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and the Management Committee. She also led the team responsible for selecting the PBM.

Prior to Touchstone Health, Dr. Mednick was the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Euro RSCG Life ManagedEdge; a division of Havas Communications, the fourth largest health care communications company in the world.

Dr. Mednick completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, her Master of Business Administration in 1998, and her Doctorate in Health Care Management in 2006. In April 1998, she received professional certification from the Academy of Health Care Management (PAHM) by board exam. In April 2003, she became a Fellow of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, becoming one of only thirteen pharmacists in the country to achieve this credential.

In April 2007, Darlene was awarded the Steven G. Avey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Foundation of Managed Care Pharmacy. This award is a prestigious honor given to individuals who have made significant, exemplary and sustained contributions to the profession of managed care pharmacy in either clinical or administrative areas.

Prior to joining ManagedEdge in July 2006, she was the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Navitus Health Solutions a PBM headquartered in Madison, WI, where she was responsible for oversight and leadership of the start-up strategy and planning, as well as the leadership and management of eight departments, including Marketing; Marketing Communications and Clinical Program Management; Pharmacy Network Development & Administration; Industry Relations and Contracting; Account Management; Clinical Services; Health Informatics and Human Resources.

Other professional experiences include: consulting with several companies on EMRs/EHRs and ePrescribing; Medco Health in Franklin Lakes, NJ in various positions of increasing strategic value, including Vice President of Pharmacy Relations and Professional Development; Vice President of Clinical Program Operations; Vice President of Health & Utilization Management; and Vice President of New Product Development (including the PMO). In all these positions she served as the Director of Experiential Education; including the Managed Care Pharmacy Practice Residency Program that was granted a three-year accreditation from AMCP/ASHP in March 2001.

In 2001, Dr. Mednick was appointed to ACPE’s Practitioner Review Committee for accreditation of the Pharm.D. curriculum at the Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Mednick also served on the Implementation Management Team of AMCP’s Framework for Drug Therapy Management in the 21st Century, and led the PBM subgroup.

In addition, she served on NABP’s Continuing Professional Development/PSAM Committee which is responsible for development of the Pharmacy Self-Assessment Module launched in 2005.

Before joining Medco Health in August 1996, Dr. Mednick was the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations for Prudential Pharmacy Management.

Dr. Mednick is very involved in professional associations and is a charter member of AMCP. She has served as the Chair and Vice-chair of AMCP’s Membership Committee; Chair of the Professional Practice Committee; and was a member of the Legislative Committee. She was elected in 1995, to serve on AMCP’s Board of Directors, and in 2005-2006, served on the Schools of Pharmacy Relations Committee.

She currently serves as a peer-reviewer for JMCP, and is a member of the FMCP’s Research Committee. And for the last five years she has served as a Judge for the AMCP/FMCP Student National P&T Competition held each Spring.
